Petals for Play!

Clare Thompson

Petals and flowers are a fantastic resource for play! Fresh petals are great for arranging into patterns, sorting by colour, storytelling or using in transient art arrangements!

They can be floated in water or used in fresh flower arrangements…

Or used as part of a texture kitchen with mud, sand or clay…

We can preserve petals and flowers for use all year round by hanging in bunches in a darkened room for 3 weeks, pressing in a flower press or laying individual petals out on a tray… these can then be offered as loose parts for a variety of play opportunities…

Our loose parts themed picturebooks, downloadable resources and play ideas books are a great accompaniment for petal and flower play! You can find them here in our online shop! Please note, we strongly advise risk assessing all flowers and plants for toxicity before using with children.
